Composer Georges Bizet died from a heart attack aged just 37, three months into Carmen's first run. He never got to find out just how much the world would love the opera he created from the novel by Prosper Mérimée.
2010 sees Bizet's masterpiece come to the O2 Arena, where the very essence of Spain will be brought to life on stage in this acclaimed production which includes the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Carmen is a tale of lust, superstition and murder – slowly unravelling with fatal consequences as we observe the unfaithful gypsy girl and the soldier who loves her.
An orchestral arrangement of the Toreador Song from Georges Bizet's opera Carmen, played by the Damrosch Orchestra in 1903. This audio was originally on a wax cylinder, hence the scratchy quality.
This spectacular production is appearing at the O2 for a strictly limited season of just 3 matinee and 3 evening performances. Carmen will be sung in English.
